Darrianne Donnelly - BGM Models' Director
BGM Models was founded by Darrianne Donnelly, one of the very first plus-size models to achieve success in the industry. Having faced criticism since childhood about her weight with remarks like, ‘You have such a nice face. If you lost weight, you could even be a model!’, Darrianne actually forged a career in modelling.
“At first I thought the reason why I was being attracting so much attention in the industry was solely because I was bigger. Over time though, I realized that it wasn’t entirely because I was a size 16 among a bevy of waif thin women, it was because there were so few women stepping up to the job. With a bit of research, I found that this was largely due to the fact that potential plus-size models were unaware that the opportunity was open to them too”, says Darrianne. It was with this in mind, and an increasing desire to do something to change the portrayal of women in advertising, that she decided to open her own agency.
Nowadays, as advertisers acknowledge the growing consumer dissatisfaction with the portrayal of women in the media, BGM Models has grown into an international modeling agency with a client list that includes Avon, Commonwealth Bank, Special K, Big W, Myer, Mysize, Maggie T, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Today Tonight, and Australian Women's Weekly, to name a few.
